Valeria “Violet” (Babiarz) Grabowski

Valeria “Violet” (Babiarz) Grabowski, 92, of Avoca passed away on Sunday June 27, 2021 at the Mt. View Care Center, Scranton. She was born in Avoca on September 2, 1928 and was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Baiarz.

Violet was a member of Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, Avoca (SS Peter and Paul). She was a graduate of Avoca High School and a graduate of the Pittston Hospital School of Nursing, where she was certified as a registered nurse. She was employed as a RN at the Scranton State Hospital and retired after many years of employment from CMC Hospital, Scranton. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.


In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Henry Grabowski, who died in 1983 and her siblings; Mildred Grella, Irene Wotring, Helen O’Hop, and Joseph, John, Leo, and Edward Bariarz.


Violet is survived by her daughter Linda Thomas and her husband Joseph, of Dalton, grandchildren; Joseph Thomas and his wife Becki, and Matthew Thomas and his wife Jessica, great grandchildren;

Emma, Joseph, Sophie, Blake and Wyatt Thomas. Also surviving is her sister Mary Jane Kuchar, of Old Forge and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021, at 10:30am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial held at 11:00am at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call for visitation on Friday morning from 9:30am until time of mass. Interment will be held at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Avoca.
