William F. George, Jr.

William F. George, Jr., 86, of Avoca, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, September 18, 2021, at his home. He was born in Avoca, October 20, 1934 and was the son of the late William and Catherine (Clark) George.

Bill was a lifelong member of Our Lady of The Eucharist Parish Church, Pittston. He attended Avoca Schools and then served in US Army. He worked for Topps Chewing Gum, Duryea and retired after 22 years of employment. After retirement, he worked for many years at Hertz Car Rental, Avoca. Bill was a member of the West Side Social Club, Avoca.


He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Rita (Puteria) George, a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son William J. George, and his brothers Raymond and James George.


In addition to his wife Rita, William is survived by his sons, Robert, of Avoca and John and his wife Jill, of Moosic; his grandchildren Jessica, Brittany, Madison and Hailey; his great grandchildren Riley,

James, Abbigale, Colby, Kynsley and Ryker.


William’s family would like to thank the nurses and aids of Compassionate Care Hospice for their excellent care and kindness that they provided in caring for Bill.


A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at 10:00am at Our Lady of The Eucharist Parish Church, 535 North Main St., Pittston with Fr. Paul McDonnell officiating. Friends may call for visitation on Tuesday morning from 9:00am until time of mass. Interment will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Wyoming. The AMVETS of Greater Pittston will provide military honors.
