Christine Lokuta


Christine Lokuta, 91, of Avoca, passed away on Tuesday, April 17th at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. She was born in Avoca, March 12, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Peter and Evelyn (Grella) Dombrowski.

Christine was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. She was a 1944 graduate of Avoca High School and Lackawanna Business College, Scranton. She was a very active member of SS Peter and Paul Church, Avoca until the time of its closing. Christine was very devoted to her family. She was a loving and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Michael “Streaky” Lokuta, who died August 8th, 2000.

She is survived by her sons, John and his wife Deborah of Nanticoke, Mark of Avoca, and Peter and his wife Kimberly of Avoca; and her grandchildren, Stephanie, Stacey, and Jason Lokuta. Also surviving is her best friend, Helen Zygmunt and many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Christine’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Riverside Nursing and Rehab Center and Compassionate Care Hospice for their kindness, care, and support that was given to Christine.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 20th at 10:00am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call for visitation at the church on Friday morning from 9am until time of mass. Interment will be held at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Avoca.
